Board of Director

The Ngāi Tahu Holdings Board of Directors is comprised of five directors. The role of the Board is to exercise due governance over the effective management and guardianship of the assets within the Ngāi Tahu Holdings Group to ensure the businesses can realise profits and efficiencies for the shareholder.

Trevor Burt

Trevor was appointed to the Board in August 2009.

He has had an extensive career with the global industrial gas company BOC Group, working and living in Australia, China, and the USA. Following the acquisition of BOC by the Linde Group, Mr Burt moved to Germany to join the executive board of the Linde Group.

On his return to New Zealand Mr Burt joined the boards of a number of South Island companies, including Lyttelton Port Company Ltd, Mainpower NZ Ltd, and Silver Fern Farms Ltd.

Linda Constable

Linda was appointed to the Board in January 2005. Linda is a professional company director and comes from a legal practice background.

Linda was involved with the Treaty negotiations on behalf of Ngāi Tahu from 1996 to 1998, after which she joined the Office of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu as Kaiwhakahaere of Kaupapa Taiao from 1998 to 2002.

Linda’s current directorships include New Zealand Railways Corporation Limited. Linda is also a member of the Canterbury Economic Development Fund committee.

Catherine Drayton

Catherine Drayton has 15 years of experience acting as a consultant on mergers and acquisitions in Western, Central & Eastern Europe.

She is also the former partner in charge of the Assurance and Advisory business of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Central & Eastern Europe. As a result of these roles, she has significant multi-cultural, multi-jurisdictional managerial and cross-border transactional experience.

Ms Drayton currently serves as a Councillor of the University of Canterbury, is a Director of Meridian Energy Limited, Christchurch International Airport Limited, Industrial Research Limited, and the New Zealand Hockey Federation.

Ross Keenan

Ross is a professional company director, appointed to the Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation Board in January 2005.

Ross was a director of Shotover Jet Limited until the completion of Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation’s takeover of the company. He has a strong background in aviation, health, technology, finance, infrastructure, property, transport and governance.

Ross currently serves on the following Boards: Allied Work Force Group Limited (Chairman); Auckland Regional Transport Network Limited (Chairman); Cabletalk Group Limited (Chairman); Southern Travel Group (Chairman); Auckland Regional District Health Boards (Deputy Chairman); Oceania Attractions Limited; Oyster Bay Marlborough Vineyards Limited and Watercare Services Limited.

Gerry Coates

Gerry descends from Te Kapa and Hinehauone through the Loper family. He has been Alternate for Waihao since 2003, and succeeded the late Kelly Davis as representative in March 2007. He was born in Ōāmaru, and now lives in Wellington.

Gerry is a consulting professional engineer and currently Managing Director of Wise Analysis Ltd, his own consultancy firm. Apart from engineering in the fields of sustainability and renewable energy, he has governance appointments, and works in feasibility, policy and strategic planning, ethical and forensic work, and writes widely.

He chairs the board of the New Zealand Wind Energy Association, is on the board of the New Zealand Centre for Advanced Engineering, and is a former member (2003-2007) of the board of Land Transport New Zealand.

Gerry was made a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to engineering in 2007.

Sandy Maier

Sandy was appointed to the Board in August 2010.

Sandy has over 35 years experience working with global investment companies including 15 years with Citicorp/Citibank in various management positions in Jamaica, Brazil, the United States and Australasia. From 1990 – 1992 he was the Statutory Manager of DFC New Zealand.

He has his own consulting firm specialising in corporate strategy and governance, and financial and human resource issues. In December 2009 he was appointed CEO of South Canterbury Finance.

Among the many board memberships he currently holds are: Chair of Learning Media, Radius Property, Pathfinder Asset Management, Oyster Bay Vineyard and the Australasian printing group, GEON.

Until his appointment to the Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation Board Sandy was Chair of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu’s Investment Advisory Sub-committee that has helped develop an investment framework providing direction on how the iwi’s assets are managed.
